Birds. Pictures with Birds. Image of Birds. Birds (lat. Aves) is a class of feathered, warm-blooded, egg-laying vertebrates, whose front legs are of the shape of wings. Initially the structure of the body of birds is adapted to the flight, although now there are many kinds of flightless birds. Another distinctive feature is the presence of beak. Today in the world there are more than 9800 different species (in Russia, about 600 species) and this fact makes birds the most diverse group of super class of quadruped.

This class of terrestrial vertebrates is most homogeneous and there is much less differences between the different types of birds than that of mammals.

The features of modern birds are: light and strong skeleton, four-chambered heart, feather (or feather covering), the beak with no teeth and intense metabolism. In addition, all birds lay eggs, this way they differ from the vast majority of mammals. Upper extremities have taken the form of the wings, and the birds are usually able to fly, although there are some exceptions - ostriches, penguins, and a number of island endemics which, in the course of evolution, have lost the ability to fly. Birds have a special structure of the respiratory and digestive system, which is closely linked to their ability to fly. Some birds, especially crows and parrots, have the ability to learn quickly, other use some available "tools", while another transfer their acquired skills from generation to generation.

Many species of birds are making regular long flights from one region of the earth to the other, and even greater number of them is leading a nomadic life, constantly moving over short distances within the area. They are social animals, communicating with each other by means of visual and audible alarms, and perform some social actions, such as communal nesting, joint hunting and protection from predators. For most species a "social monogamy" is typical; pairs are formed for one or a few breeding seasons, but rarely for all the life. Among the forms of marriage there are also found polygyny (when the male cohabits with several females) and in rare cases, polyandry (one female and several males). Typically, eggs are laid in the nest and incubated by two members of the couple. Most of the birds are caring for the offspring after birth for a long time. Painting The Birds.

Most paleontologists believe that birds have evolved from theropods, carnivorous dinosaurs in the Jurassic period about 150-200 million years ago (and they can be considered as the only branch (a group of organisms with a common ancestor) of dinosaurs, that survived in the post-Cretaceous extinction about 65.5 million years ago).

The most ancient finding considered to be fossilized remains of Archaeopteryx, an animal that lived 155-150 million years ago, and had features of both modern birds and reptiles. Another view is that birds descended from thecodonts and the ancestor of birds either protoavis or Longisquama that lived during the Triassic period. In the latter case the animals, commonly called maniraptora dinosaurs, like Velociraptor, considered to be birds.

They provide protection for their territory from alien invasion (that is, in fact, the provision of food resources), attracting females for breeding, protecting relatives and nestlings from imminent danger. In the language of birds, there are dozens of sound signals (disaster warnings, food, courtship, mating, aggressive, gregarious, nesting and so on).

But man can not hear many of the high overtones in the voice of birds (transient in the ultrasounds), as well as fast trills (modulations, volume and diapason, that are exceeding more than 10 changes per second). Bird chirping often consists of modulations of about 100-400 changes of sound per second.

Fairy tale "The Star Venerka"

The Star Venerka is a very bright, beautiful and ultra-fast bird. It belongs to the squad of interstellar and migratory birds of the solar system. Despite its small size and a wingspan of about 80 cm, Venerka can speed exceeding the speed of light.

Its nesting place is the planet Venus. Venerka makes nests of Saturn's rings and stardust. In a year clutch there are, in average, from one to three eggs of a bright blue color. The nestlings are born sighted, walking and biting. When they are hungry they emit a deafening ultrasound and all the inhabitants of Venus hurry to give all their supplies of food to nestlings so they ate and were silent. Star Venerkas arrive on the Earth during the ripening of pomegranates and cranberries, but because of their speed, they are almost invisible.
