Artist Osta Andrew Ukrainian

Country: Canada
City: Toronto

ndrew Osta was born in Kiev, Ukraine in 1982. He immigrated to Canada with his family in 1994. In 2005, Andrew graduated with Honours from the University of Toronto with dual degrees in Philosophy and Computer Science. Andrew's consistently high GPA earned him Dean's List Awards for four years consecutively, and he graduated in the top 10% of his class. Disregarding his academic achievements, Andrew chose to begin an artistic career.

Andrew's uniquely recognizable work was appreciated and accepted into local galleries from the very beginning. He impressed older painters with his color sense, symbolism, and composition. Keith Widgor, a major collector of surrealist art and founder of SurrealismNow, called Andrew Osta “a surrealist genius.”

After graduation, Andrew travelled extensively, visiting the important museums in New York City, Mexico, and overseas. In 2007-2008, Andrew lived and taught for a year in South Korea. In 2009, he participated in the development of the first in Canada “Healing and Counseling Through Art” program at SISO Hamilton, where he used art to counsel refugee children and youth.

In 2009, Andrew decided to spend 8 months in the jungles of Peru.
He was invited to speak and exhibit his paintings at the 5th International Amazonian Shamanism Conference, where he shared the stage and the exhibition hall with the most famous painter of ayahuasca visions, the late Pablo Amaringo. In the next 8 months, Andrew composed a full length musical CD of original songs, Dimension Dream. He also wrote and published a book about his experiences in the jungle, titled "Shamans and Healers".

After returning from Peru and professionally recording his musical CD at Shiny House Studios with Ben Vincze, Andrew moved to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico where he continues to paint and write full time.

Andrew's art had been exhibited in Canada, USA, Mexico, South Korea, and Peru. His works are in private collections in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
